For many, Christmas brings suffering rather than joy. Unable to live up to the advertised world of sparkling gifts, happy families and plentiful friends we feel anger and shame. Further, the repeated traditions bring to mind those we grieve or hurts that won’t stay forgotten. So we turn to food, alcohol or other things that take the pain away.
