Coaching or Therapy?
It’s all too common for people to become isolated through ideals about ‘going it alone’, and both therapy and coaching are antidotal to this negative tendency – they are ways of expanding your spheres of support.
Therapy is like an internal, interpersonal laboratory, where you work with cognition, emotion and relationships to help manage your feelings, build emotional independence, and learn to see things in new ways.
Coaching is more externally focussed, and usually includes clarity and accountability around goals and where you want to get to in life, as well as support in unblocking the energy and resilience you need to go out and achieve your dreams. Both coaching and therapy build meaning and clarity of purpose – particularly in times of depletion.
Whether it is managing your feelings and relationships (therapy), or creating a vision or plan (coaching), either route can support you both personally and professionally, as you establish your autonomy and self-expression, and walk your own path.
